The ONLY way you can experience up to eight channels of uncompressed digital
7.1 surround sound audio, along with up to 1920 x 1080 resolution video from your home theater
system is from playing Blu-ray Discs on a Blu-ray Disc player
(or Sony PlayStation 3). You've got to connect the
HDMI output on the back of the Blu-ray Disc player using a single HDMI cable (which transmits both audio and video) to an HDMI
input on a home theater receiver that features the latest Dolby TrueHD and/or DTS-HD Master Audio decoding.
Network-ready BD players will also need an
Ethernet cable run from a home
network to the back of the Blu-ray player, or be set up
wirelessly via Wi-Fi if applicable. |
You'll also need to run another HDMI cable out of the home theater receiver to an HDMI input on a 1080p high definition television or 1080p home theater projector. Of course, the home
theater receiver must also be connected to a surround sound speaker system.
A nice thing about all Blu-ray Disc players is that they are
backwards-compatible with standard 480i DVDs (and they also play music CDs), although you'll get just 5.1 surround sound audio and
720 x 480 video that's "upconverted" to 1920 x 1080. SOME Blu-ray Disc players can do
so much more,
especially when connected to your home network! |
