While
a Blu-ray Disc player does a perfect pixel-for-pixel job of matching the Full HD
1920x1080 native resolution video of 1080p high definition televisions and 1080p home theater projectors (and provides 7.1 channels of digital surround sound audio),
you've got to buy or rent Blu-ray Discs to take advantage of it. A side-benefit to
high definition Blu-ray Disc players is
that they also upconvert conventional DVDs to make DVD
movies look better on today's high definition TVs and
projectors, although it won't magically look or sound nearly as nice as Blu-ray! (Of course, a Blu-ray Disc player can
also play music CDs.)
Perhaps you've got a substantial collection of DVD movies (and music CDs)
and don't want to make the switch to a newer movie format. Or
you've got a smaller screen size or lower-resolution TV where you won't be able to see the difference between Blu-ray
and DVD. Save some cash and buy a 720p/1080i/1080p upconverting DVD player -- many
basic models are priced under $100! Be sure to connect it to your home theater receiver using an HDMI cable. |
